Roeper teacher Jesie Qi and Stage IV daugher Anka Qu received The President's Award for volunteering their time to support the Chinese community.
Congratulations to Stage II teacher Jesie Qi and her Stage IV daughter Anka Qu for each receiving The President's Volunteer Service Award for "unpaid acts of volunteer service benefitting others".
Anka did 180 hours of volunteer work performing as a little girl who tried to help a veteran in a Chinese modern drama called "Where Am I". This stage play was performed for Chinese audiences in Ann Arbor and Waterloo, Canada in 2018. The award was postponed due to the COVID pandemic.
Jesie worked for D Chinese Radio and TV Network hosting their Educational Channel which is designed to support Chinese education. Jesie said that "As a radio personality, I helped parents to find practical family education resources, invited educators, experts, and parents to share their stories, experience, and hands on strategies to support and assist their parenting work". She volunteered over 400 hours for this important work on the weekends.
Roeper is so proud of Anka and Jesie for their efforts in supporting the Chinese community which reflect our Roeper values. They are true citizens of the world!
