Read about Dan's amazing 25 years at Roeper and this well deserved accolade!
Dan Jacobs was recently inducted into the Michigan Speech Coaches (MSCI) Hall of Fame. He has been a beloved Forensics and Debate Coach, as well as teacher at Roeper for 25 years. This VIDEO by Roeper Parent Anthony Morrow shows the impact that Dan has had on many students and colleagues, past and present. The Roeper Forensics Team and Assistant Coach Laura Moore celebrated his well-deserved honor by hosting a surprise reception following the annual end-of-year Forensics Night held to show our talented students and their accomplishments.
In the MSCI press release written by Heather McKaig, she quotes Dan:
“… It's rewarding to watch some of these folks grow from 11-year-olds into coaches in their own right -- and to feel the growth inside myself from being immersed in a seemingly endless process of creativity and discovery… forensics and debate give students the ideal low-stakes spaces for trying on a variety of viewpoints and exploring different ways to articulate what they're most passionate about. I have yet to find a better venue for inspiring self-motivated learning where students feel the intrinsic value of critical thinking and self-expression. “
Dan’s teaching, coaching and leadership has resulted in many successes for Roeper:
Roeper has been third in the state 8 times, second once
At least 6 Poetry State Champions as well as around 15 Poetry State Semifinalists
Has had State Champions in Oratory, Duo, Prose, Dramatic Interpretation, and Storytelling
Under his guidance, Roeper has had State Finalists in every category except Broadcasting and Multiple
Had a Public Forum Debate Team that was in the top 8 teams in the country at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament -Compiled by Ms McKaig
