BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., February 12, 2013 – On Saturday, February 2, 2013, the Roeper Chess team won multiple awards at the Michigan Scholastic Team Championship Chess State Tournament. The K-3 Championship team won 1st place and was named State Champs. The K-5 Championship team finished 2nd in the state. Two of the K-5 Reserve teams received trophies for 5th and 7th in the state.
In addition to the teams placing, the following Roeper students received medals for individual achievement:Silver medals (4 or 4.5 out of 5 points):

This year, the school had 26 players compete. “The students’ hard work, determination, practice, focus and game play that the Roeper team placed so well at the tournament,” stated Coach Diallo Smith. This is the third consecutive year that Coach Smith, of Detroit, has led the Roeper chess team to this event.
