Downbeat Magazine: Leading Jazz publication, current issue can be found in the periodical's section, arrives monthly.

The Economist: Magazine with a focus on world news, great resource for getting an understanding of what's happening in the world.

Harper's: One of the oldest magazines in the United States, full of longform pieces and thoughtful critique of the country.

Infrotrac Newsstand: Database containing newspaper archives from 1980 to the present.

J-14: The online version of the popular celebrity magazine.

Make: A magazine for the creator and hacker in you. Find out new ideas and possibilities for projects.

Mental Floss: A great resource for puzzles, quizzes and ways to stretch your mind.

Michigan Sportsman: Local magazine that's focused on hunting and fishing, good read beside outdoor classes.

National Geographic: Scientific magazine with blogs that are updated daily covering all areas of science.

The New Republic: Politic magazine that concentrates on the United States, the articles tend to deal with difficult topics.

Newsweek: News magazine that covers a variety of topics, not always the most in-depth search but articles present good overviews.

New Yorker: Focus on thoughtful takes on events, issues tend to present a theme, number of good blogs on the site including Photo Booth with photographs of major artists. Always has new short fiction and poetry.


The New York Times: Newspaper of note and we have access to their archive which is helpful for historical research and covers 1985 to the present.

Rookie Mag: A magazine created by a teenager for other teenager girls, only available online.

Scientific American: Major publication of what's going on in the scientific world, great resource for understanding what's being studied and why.

Smithsonian Magazine: Connected to the Smithsonian Institution, full of articles on history, archaeology with a focus on American history.

Sports Illustrated: Sports magazine with informative articles and up to date information on teams.

Time: Magazine that's famous for its pictures and thoughtful coverage.

Vanity Fair: Focus on culture and at times celebrity, known for their photo spreads.

Wired: Foremost magazine about technology.
